About the Doctor
About
Dr. Piyush Ojha Neurologist, Stroke Specialist & Neurointerventionist
He is among the few neurologists in India with formal fellowship training in both stroke neurology and neurointervention, bringing together expertise in the medical and endovascular management of stroke. He completed his Stroke Fellowship at the Calgary Stroke Program, University of Calgary, Canada, followed by a Neurointervention Fellowship at Medanta Institute of Neurosciences, Gurugram.
He also completed a Pain Medicine Fellowship at Delhi Pain Management Centre through Aesculap Academy. This additional training complements his neurological practice in the assessment and management of headache, neuropathic pain and other persistent pain conditions. His individualised approach focuses on identifying the underlying cause, relieving symptoms and improving daily functioning and quality of life.
Dr. Ojha has contributed to the development of stroke units and training programmes, with an emphasis on timely recognition, coordinated emergency care and stroke prevention. He is actively involved in teaching and mentoring neurology residents and stroke fellows, and regularly participates as invited faculty at national conferences and academic meetings. His community initiatives focus on improving awareness of stroke symptoms, the importance of immediate treatment and measures to reduce stroke risk.
Actively involved in research and medical education, Dr. Ojha has authored or co-authored more than 50 research publications and serves as a reviewer for national and international neurology journals. His research interests include stroke imaging, thrombectomy, intracerebral haemorrhage and neurovascular disorders. His publications include work in JAMA Network Open, the American Journal of Neuroradiology, the European Stroke Journal and the Annals of Indian Academy of Neurology.
He also co-authored the Hindi patient-education handbook, ‘पक्षाघात (ब्रेन स्ट्रोक) मार्गदर्शिका: जनउपयोगी सूचनाएं एवं मार्गदर्शन’, released at the Indian Academy of Neurology’s national conference in Chennai in 2017. The handbook provides accessible information on stroke for patients and their families.
Dr. Ojha currently serves as Convener of the Interventional Neurology Subsection of the Indian Academy of Neurology. He is a life member of several national professional societies, including the Indian Academy of Neurology, Indian Stroke Association, Neurological Society of India, Society of Therapeutic Neurointerventions, Society of Neurovascular Interventions, Society of Neurosonology and Association of Physicians of India. His international professional memberships include the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, European Stroke Organisation and World Stroke Organization. He is also a member of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society.
He received the Young Investigator Award at the World Stroke Congress 2022 for his research on thrombectomy in medium-vessel occlusion stroke. He was also awarded the Gold Medal for Best Postgraduate Student in Medicine at MGM Medical College, Indore.
